What is the ideal form of government? Is social media a good or bad thing? Do memories exist if you forget them? Is it better to be feared than loved? If a bar of soap falls on the dirty floor, is the soap dirty and the floor clean? Why did Cinderella's shoe fall off if it fitted perfectly in the first place? This year, Largy College is entering the Irish Young Philosophers Award for the first time! The IYPA is a philosophical initiative that invites students to reflect on philosophical questions and create a philosophical project which is discussed and judged by a committee of professional philosophers. Students can create individual projects, or they may work and collaborate as part of a class project or a small group.

 

Since the launch of the Irish Young Philosopher Awards in 2017 by President Michael D. Higgins, the IYPA has become a major philosophical and educational event in Ireland. The finals take place each year in University College Dublin.

 

Here in Largy College, we will be submitting a wide variety of entries from Second to Fifth Year! If anyone is interested in taking part, get in touch with Mr. MacLochlainn or any R.E. Teacher.
