On Wednesday 14th of May 2015, Largy College won the National Final of the Concern Schools' Debating Competition, held in the RDS, Dublin.
The team, composed of Captain Marieke DeJong, Sinead Gallagher, Christy Biji, Sean Mullins and Mollie McCluskey, beat their opponents, St Flannan's College, Ennis, Co Clare, by opposing the motion, "Africa Rising is a False Dawn".
The debate was closely fought, with both teams displaying a wonderful breadth of knowledge on the subject and both teams delivering their points with a passion, gusto and a confidence well beyond their years, an achievement of great significance in the sphere of education. The road to the final, which began in September 2013, involved debating against schools from Monaghan, Cavan, Donegal, Meath, Galway, Dublin, Kildare and finally Clare.
