TY & LCA Tour 2024 – Barcelona, Montserrat & Salou

The TY and LCA students enjoyed a fantastic trip to Barcelona. Our four-day, three-night trip was action packed and full of adventure! On the first day, students enjoyed a guided tour of Barcelona, taking in all of the tourist highlights that the city has to offer.

Day 2 involved a cable car ride up to Montserrat, which is a spectacular Benedictine monk mountain retreat. Not only is Montserrat Monastery of significant religious importance but the natural beauty surrounding the monastery is simply breathtaking, the area offers some of the most spectacular mountain views of Catalunya. The famous Basilica choir boy performances of Gregorian chants can be heard throughout the Basilica at lunchtime each day. After lunch students visited CosmoCaixa Science Museum, home to an array of interactive exhibits ranging from the "Flooded Forest" – an Amazonian-style glasshouse home to piranhas, crocodiles and exotic plant species – to "The Universe Gallery," which focuses on all things space, from the creation of the cosmos to evolution and the human brain. Students had the opportunity to get hands-on with different experiments, from creating sandstorms and tornadoes to learning how soundwaves are transmitted,

Day 3 was spent in Port Aventura Theme Park, the biggest theme park in Spain and the third largest in Europe. The park is divided into six themed areas and includes forty-one rides and attractions including the ionic Shambhala, which holds three European records; the tallest, longest drop, and fastest hypercoaster in Europe. That evening students enjoyed a Magic Show at House of Illusion, hosted by Matt Edwards a contestant in Britain’s Got Talent

Each Evening was spent on the Beach in Salou, swimming and playing sport as the sun was setting. This was a true highlight for the students.

On our final day, the students explored Park Güell, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Park was designed by the famous architect Antonio Gaudi and due to the parks historical, architectural and artistic uniqueness, it is considered one of the most impressive public parks in the world. Students enjoyed free time for lunch strolling along Las Ramblas and purchasing souvenirs. Our final activity was a relaxing boat cruise around Barcelona's port before making the return journey to the airport.

Thank you to Ms Magennis, Mr Deery, Ms Lyons, Ms Goff, Mr Mone, Ms McGovern, Mr O’ Rourke and trip organiser Ms Sherry for accompanying the students on the trip. Finally thank you to the wonderful TY & LCA students for your fun-loving nature and exemplary behaviour on the trip.
